Shopping Bags Part One.

Students reflect on the types shopping bags they have encountered during “consumerism trips” (i.e. shopping at the mall, grocery store, etc.) and discuss the differences or similarities between the bags that are used in different these places. Students thought about their consumer identity in relation to shopping bags, such as consumers who use environmentally friendly bags for shopping or a shopaholic who might have plenty of shopping bags from making purchases at multiple stores. Students reflect on creating a consumer identity based on the places they shop and what bags they carry for other people to see.

Thinking about:

How are people influenced by the media and advertising? How and why do advertisers promote products? What is the importance or significance of a shopping bag?

Fundred Dollar Bill Project

Bills created by Saturday Art School students.
7th + 8th grade.

Inspired by: www.fundred.org

The FUNDRED DOLLAR BILL PROJECT is an innovative artwork made of millions of drawings. This creative collective action is intended to support OPERATION PAYDIRT, an extraordinary art/science project uniting three million children with educators, scientists, health care professionals, designers, urban planners, engineers and artists. Together they are working to make safe the lead polluted soil of New Orleans that places thousands of children at risk for severe learning disabilities and behavioral problems, including violent crime.

The FUNDRED DOLLAR BILL PROJECT is raising local and national awareness of the hidden problems of lead pollution in New Orleans through the production of “FUNDRED DOLLAR BILLS” — original interpretations of U.S. one hundred dollar bills hand drawn by school children and community members across the U.S.
